The Estevan Skatepark
was built in late 2005. The park was designed and built by Skate
Concept. It is on a pad of concrete approximately
50ish' x 100ish', I say approximately because the pad isn’t exactly
square. That being said, it is hard to describe what shape it really
is…refer to the Skatepark Layout picture if you’re curious. |
As for the location. It is right behind the Estevan Aquatic and Leisure
Centre. If you have absolutely no idea where or what that is, click
here to see a map.
Skate
Concept created the park renderings, one
of which you can look at to the left under the Skatepark
Layout section. While on the topic, kudos to them for doing
an awesome job at designing the overall layout of the park.
Personally I may have done some things different, but I can’t
complain… it’s Estevan…I’m pumped |

this actually got done and the skaters and bikers have somewhere to go without getting hassled. Anywho, back to the park, within
the park there is a 6’ quarter pipe, 4’ – 5’ half
pipe,
3.5’ volcano, 6 set with a rail, pyramid with a rail, grind
box, and some other stuff. It ranges from
beginner to more advanced so everyone can have a good
time after they get used to some of the transitions.

So, how things went down. The pad of concrete was
laid before hand with grooves where the ramps and such would be
placed. Then Skate Concept shipped out the ramps and they got craned
into their position on the concrete and the ground around the park
was somewhat landscaped to match the edges of the park so there
wouldn’t be any sudden drop offs. |
After that the rest of the concrete was laid around the upper levels
of the park and the cracks, gabs and spaces between the ramps and such
were filled in. As of right now… I’m gonna go out on a limb
here and say they aren’t holding up to well. I say this because
they are cracking and pieces are falling out making it a rough ride in
some places. I’m thinking these may have to be redone here sometime
or another… rather sooner than later. Anyways, after they were
filled in the park was ready to go, apart from the sidewalk, bridge,
grass, sprinklers, fence posts, signs… yeah… still waiting
on a few things in that department.

As for the rules laid down by the head honchos, some
of them are ridiculous and I can't see them being followed, but they can
try I guess. One of these that I’m talking about being the “No
Music” rule. Sorry, but that kind of rediculous. What's wrong with a little music while you're having fun. You can
check out the rest of the rules by clicking
on the picture of the sign. I gotta rant again here. When the
|
sign was made, they didn’t put XS-iV on it despite everything they have done for
the skatepark and skateboard scene in general. The SKATEBOARD shop wasn’t
on the sign for the SKATEBOARD park. Good thing someone stuck
an XS-iV sticker on the sign. Anyways, I’m done ranting
and raving about the park. I
suggest you check it out if you haven’t, it well worth
a look! Even if you aren’t a skater, bmxer, rollerblader,
etc. It’s got everything you could need… minus
a water fountain, and electrical outlets…and a broom.
The city has recently put benches at the park (the non-skating kind)!
Some nice blue ones that say something along the lines of "Prairie
Mines"
on them. Not sure if that is exactly the saying, but it's close enough.
So now the park just needs the electrical
outlets and a water fountain! So... let's get those
City of Estevan. Skater's will be forever in your dept. Well maybe not
forever... but you know what I mean. Check out the City of Estevan website by clicking here to get more information on the city. |
